Why is it called nail polish instead of nail paint?

I painted my nails the other day and thought that was kinda weird. Why is it called nail polish instead of nail paint?
Good question-I think it's becuase your nails are usually shinier after you put nail polish on...creating the ';polished'; effect...And polish has a more positive connotation to it (which helps in advertising). Think about it: polished means cleaned or well-kept and paint...doesn't really have any positive meaning associated with it.

That's a good question.....You paint your nails with polish. I guess that's a just a fancy way someone thought of to say it.
Actually it is nail lacquer. It isn't paint at all it is pigmented lacquer.
